Preparing our kids to take over their own medical care is one of the best things parents can do to pave the way for greater independence. As parents, we are hyper involved in our children's health care needs. Most of us may even feel like having a child with SB comes with an honorary medical degree. We attend appointments, do research, ask the questions. And where do the kids fit in? Do they know what doctor they see for what? Are they involved to the extent that is appropriate for their age? In order to shape our children into independent adults, we must give them the necessary tools to take ownership of their bodies and their health.
This special Growing UP with SB session will be held at the Norton Children's Hospital Spina Bifida Clinic and families will meet with some of the clinic specialists. You will have the opportunity to see how the clinic operates, ask questions of the specialists, and learn the process for transitioning medical care and decisions to our children as they turn into young, independent adults.
