Bread Making Class with Wine & Cheese
Come join us for an AMAZING event with Head Baker, Emily Sheffield of 410 Bakery. Watch and ask all the questions you want about Bread Making, while you enjoy wine and cheese pairings. Accompanying her will be Wine Specialist Derek Sheffield and local cheeses.
Derek grew up in downtown New Albany with an American father and a first generation immigrant German mother. With frequent trips to Europe as a child and teenager, Derek became enthralled in the culture surrounding food and wine. He recalls how magical it was driving past the steep vineyards in Mosel and the Rheingau. While he cherishes the grit of vineyard work he could not ignore his call to work with people and currently works at Brooklyn and the Butcher behind the bar and as a specialist of wine. He hopes that with his persistent study and diligent work ethic the culture of New Albany could someday mirror that of the small villages he loved so much in his youth.
Emily grew up in Clarksville and had a passion for baking from a young age. She would spend summers watching food network, then riding her bike to the nearby Kroger for ingredients to create whatever she had seen on TV that day. Following high school, Emily decided to pursue her love of baking and attended the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. Upon graduation, she stayed in New York and worked at Bread Alone bakery. After a year she decided to come back home and work with her parents’ expanding business, Coffee Crossing. Emily filled the need for pastries in the booming coffee shops, and soon outgrew her small baking space allowing her to fulfill her dream of opening her own boutique French style boulangerie, 410 Bakery.
