In the McConnell Center's final public talk of the 2017 fall semester, Christopher Yung, PhD, will discuss the challenges to assessing China's strategic trajectory and of formulating an effective U.S. policy toward China. The lecture will highlight the need to set aside traditional means of evaluating the nature of a threat and of formulating and coordinating China policy.

Yung is the Donald Bren Chair of Non-Western Strategic Thought at Marine Corps University and serves as director and professor of East Asian Studies. Previously, he was a senior research fellow and deputy director of the Center for the Study of Chinese Military Affairs, Institute for National Strategic Studies, U.S. National Defense University.

Yung is the author, editor and contributor to numerous books, articles and chapters on the Chinese military, Chinese strategy and East Asian security issues. He holds both a PhD and a master’s degree from the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and studied Mandarin in Beijing, PRC.
