This program pairs high school students interested in pursuing visual art as a career with local artist mentors to explore new artistic processes, portfolio building, exhibition design, installation, marketing and other skills required to be a professional artist. The Future Is Now was offered this summer from late May through late July at KyCAD. Participating students are eligible for “The KyCAD Future Is Now Scholarship” their freshman year if they enroll in the Kentucky College of Art + Design at Spalding University.
The program received many strong applications and ultimately selected six students to participate this summer — Nicole Scott, Brittney Sharp, Rashad Sullivan, Hannah Lyle, Heavenly Tanner and Sunny Podbelsek. They have been paired with an artist mentor of their choosing from the mentor application pool. The participating artist mentors this summer are Jake Ford, Bobby Barbour, Deb Whistler, Dominic Guarnaschelli, Linda Erzinger, and Lauren Hirsch.
